All in a Name

Why "Lightfoot"? Lightfoot is my mom's maiden name, and in honor of my grandparents, who are no longer with us and had a great impact on my life, we chose to keep the name in the family (since they had two girls, the name hasn't continued on our side as a surname).

What if she had been born in May? No, her name would not have been May. Michael suggested June early on, but I told him that I didn't want to get attached to it and then have a baby come early. So, I'd been thinking of another name the whole time, and I thought we were 90% in agreement. After bonding with her and fawning over her the first hours, Michael brought the idea back up (he's always been a patient man). I had to let it gel to see if it could overtake the other name, and sure enough, it fits her well.

And no matter how much time you take to pick a beautiful name (in your mind, anyway), you have to laugh when your son introduces the baby to all the neighbors as "my new baby, June Foot".

Natalie! I love the name, and I love the history behind the name. Because your mom's on facebook, I got the connection right away. And, I'm a Katharine in a loooong line of Katharines, so I understand the importance of keeping a name in the family... but regardless: Welcome, June Foot! I LOVE it! That made me laugh out loud! :)

I think Lee deserves some credit for "June Bug." He called that instead of "Catfish" this time.
